Space is a hostile environment for all systems in orbit around our planet, such as satellites, rockets, shuttles, orbital stations and space capsules. With thousands of these drifting around in space, space debris and micrometeorites have been the primary cause of spacecraft mortality for over a decade. And the number of spacecraft in orbit is continuously rising.
THIOT INGENIERIE works together with CNES, ESA and satellite manufacturers to improve the safety of spacecraft. Our experts have developed a gas gun that makes it possible to carry out impact tests at velocities of up to 10.5 km/s (38,000 km/h), a speed nearing that of micrometeorites in space. In our laboratory, we carry out tests that are key to understanding the behaviour of materials subjected to hypervelocity impacts. To meet specific needs, we associate our expertise in physical testing, material characterization and numerical simulation to support you in the development of structures with higher impact resistance and which will generate less debris in the event of a collision.
