Space debris and micrometeorites represent real dangers for the survival of our satellites. The response of space materials and structures to these hypervelocity impact threats needs to be modeled in order to optimize their protective effects, but also to study their capacity to generate space debris and further pollute space.
THIOT INGENIERIE has one of the few facilities for laboratory reproduction of hypervelocity impacts (our HERMES launcher allows us to carry out impact tests up to 10.5 km/s, which is a world record). With this laboratory installation, Hypervelocity is one of our company’s main fields of interest. We have the physical parameters of the material’s behavior in this stress state at our disposal.
Reliable numerical models, established by our experts, are used on a daily basis to calculate structures in hypervelocity.
